Tiivistelmä
Toimintakyvyn arvioinnissa ICF-luokituksesta on tullut keskeinen väline. Se ei kuitenkaan yksin riitä, vaan sen rinnalla tarvitaan luotettavaksi osoitettuja, oikein käytettyjä arviointimenetelmiä. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) has become a central tool for assessing the level of functioning. However, the ICF alone is not enough; it must be accompanied by methods for assessing functioning that have proved to be reliable and are applied correctly. When the methods for assessing functioning and the codes and qualifiers of the ICF are used together, it is possible to obtain a comprehensive picture of a person’s functioning, its limitations and the contributing environmental and individual factors.
The ICF Core Sets guide the user in assessing the principal objects of description in each situation or injury, while the ICF assessment form helps the user to collate data about functioning. On the other hand, it must be noted that the use of the Core Sets, assessment forms or the e-Description Form does not steer the selection of methods. The
starting point is that the expert knows which of the customer’s constructions should be measured and why. This determines the assessment methods selected. In Finland, the TOIMIA network is an expert body that prepares recommendations concerning the measurement and assessment of functioning and conducts evaluations of measurement tools on the basis of research evidence.
